Row after row of hundreds of tin
houses... people who
live here say
it’s like hell on earth. |
They say this place is like hell on earth
Your heart would’ve ached if you were with us when we visited Blikkiesdorp (Tin Town) – about 20 kms from Cape Town – the other day.
It would have ached for people like Lena Gysman and her four children.
And it would have ached for the other 1500 people who live here.
And that’s why I’m hoping you’ll help.
You’ll probably find it hard to believe that Lena (who’s single and unemployed) and her family have lived in their single 6x8 metre room for two years. There’s no bathroom or running water in the house and they share a toilet with four other families.
And if things aren’t bad enough in this tin town, most of the people here go hungry day after day ...
Which is why it’ll make the world of difference if you could make an online gift right now.
Because when you do you’ll be helping to set up a community soup kitchen in this forgotten place. When there’s no food in the house, Lena and her family survive on a weak mix of maize meal and water.
‘It makes me very heart sore to see my children hungry and I do not have food to give them,’ she said.
But despite the hardships, Lena says ‘I’m grateful to have a place of my own. We have a roof over our head’.
With such a strength of spirit, you can imagine how much more Lena and her family could achieve with a little help ... if only they had a nutritious meal of soup or stew and rice every day.
Then Lena will be able to focus on finding a job, and improving life for her family. At the moment, the income she gets from two government child grants lasts just four days.
It can seem like a never-ending cycle. But it’s not!
If you’ll make your donation right now you’ll be helping to start a community soup kitchen. And that’ll mean an end to hunger – and the start of hope – for the people of Blikkiesdorp.
