Atlantis Community Development Centre
This subsistence fishing community on the West Coast
has been badly affected by commercial fishing enterprises – to
the extent that food security is one of the major issues. HIV and
AIDS are also rife.
Through the WARMTH kitchen, daily meals are provided to the hungry,
and items such as blankets, plastic sheeting, food vouchers
and clothing are given to those in desperate need.
In response to the AIDS crisis, the Centre is currently implementing
a holistic programme that involves pre-and post-test counselling,
support groups for those infected with and affected by HIV and
AIDS, and awareness programmes within the community and at schools.
An extremely active CDC which has day-to-day contact with its
beneficiaries, Atlantis holds regular training courses focusing
on resource mobilisation and developing an understanding of local
government and related issues.
