CWD’s youth programme is on the ball!
Recently CWD’s Youth Interfacing Programme started working in the Delft community – an underprivileged area close to Cape Town that’s inundated with social problems.
There was no formal soccer team in the Delft south area but now – thanks to our youth programme’s efforts and the community’s involvement and support – the Golden Stars Football Club has been successfully launched.
Two teams – made up of junior and senior players – are thrilled with this initiative.
Prayer
Annalise Youle at CWD’s Delft Community Centre has even more good news: ‘I’ve been sitting in on the club meetings and I’m so proud of the players’ attitude. They want to be identified in an honourable way on and off the field.
‘They’ve decided to open and close their meetings in prayer – and they’re determined to steer clear of the social ills in their community. They’re so enthusiastic! ‘Having their own soccer gear and being part of this club has given them a sense of pride and belonging.’
Positive contribution
The teams will take part in tournaments and youth camps – and they’ll also participate in life skills
programmes which guide youth towards making a positive contribution to society.
