Tafelsig Community Development Centre

This community is facing many challenges, particularly relating to gangsterism, domestic violence and substance abuse (especially tik).

The centre plays an important role in providing much needed emotional support to those affected. It also acts as a place of safety that vulnerable children can count on.

As many people within the community are destitute, the centre focuses on poverty and crisis relief, in the form of food vouchers/parcels, blankets, plastic sheeting and clothing.

Nearly 250 people benefited from this assistance in the past year, with a further 200 receiving counselling for substance abuse. Domestic violence workshops and parenting skills workshops were also held.

For the youth, life skills workshops and camping trips have been organised as a means of breaking the cycle of drug and alcohol abuse.

The centre also runs a sewing group for the elderly.

Former gangster and drug addict, Ricardo Moses [pictured left with his children and mother] found the strength to leave his old life behind – thanks to counselling he received at the Tafelsig CDC.

His children come to the centre in the afternoons to do their homework, while his mother attends our Club for the Elderly.
